Fort Bragg to hold career fair for the military community tomorrow

By Keyuri Parab, posted 2 years ago

Day two of the Hiring Our Heroes Career Summit will be held at the Iron Mike Conference Center on Fort Bragg at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30.

The fair, open to service members, veterans and family members, is a collaboration between the Directorate of Human Resources Transition Assistance Program on Fort Bragg and Hiring Our Heroes of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.

“In a normal hiring process, businesses have little time to consider the number of job seekers, in order to find the right candidate,” said Sgt. 1st Class Justin Hartman, a transitioning Soldier within the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade. “With this career summit, we as the military are privileged to have employers come and devote time and energy to give focus to us.”

The summit began today, Sept. 29, with briefings and discussion, but the career summit will continue tomorrow. The two-day event includes employer spotlight, training programs, military spouse programs and career fair.

Job seekers are encouraged to sign up by visiting the Hiring Our Heroes event page here, or they can show up to the event and register on the spot starting at 9 a.m.

“Because this is a career opportunity, job seekers should dress to impress and bring multiple copies of their updated resume for engagement with potential employers,” said Ann Nollett, director of Fort Bragg directorate of human resources. “Job seekers who register online to participate in this week’s event will be linked with resources to assist them with resume preparation.”

Currently, the fair has about 280 registered attendees of which 198 are service members in the transition phase, 54 are veterans, and 28 are family members. There will be 86 companies in attendance to provide information and opportunities during the career summit.

“One of our top priorities in the Directorate of Human Resources Transition Assistance Program on Fort Bragg is ensuring the readiness of our transitioning soldiers by being the one-stop-shop for employment opportunities, employment and education workshops, seminars, and other beneficial career training,” Nollett said.

Service members, veterans and family members in need of assistance with their resumes can access free services on a regular basis through the Transition Assistance Program and Army Community Services on Fort Bragg. For more information visit  https://bragg.armymwr.com/programs/erp.

“Our mission is to ensure our transitioning soldiers, family members, and support veterans are career ready, this is an outstanding opportunity for job seekers to explore the vast number of resources available to them as they transition from military service and reintegrate into civilian life,” Nollett added.

Fort Bragg has previously collaborated with Hiring Our Heroes on three different occasions as a part of their career readiness initiative.

“Because of the immense value and benefits the career summit has brought to soldiers, veterans and spouses, we are committed to making the hiring event a continual opportunity,” she said. “Going forward, our intent is to make the career summit an annual event for the benefit of our military community.”
