Sampson County Schools hosts first CTE Summer Camp

Sampson County Schools will have its first CTE Summer Camp: Getting Real Career Camp from July 11-15 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. 

“This is our first career camp. We are very excited to be able to provide this opportunity for our students,” said Ginger Stone, CTE director for the summer camp.

Sampson County Schools was awarded a grant from DPI's Office of Learning Recovery & Acceleration to provide workforce aligned summer programs for grades 6-12.

A group of 100 students from grades 6-11 will participate in the camp. These students will get the opportunity to tour local businesses and industries in Sampson County and Fayetteville. 

“We tried to incorporate as many pathways and businesses as possible,” added Stone. “When selecting businesses for the pathway tours, we reached out to the ones that had contacted us about work-based learning opportunities for students, those that had called with employment needs, members of our advisory committee or those that had partnered with us on other events.”

Throughout the course of the camp, students will be involved in STEM-based, hands-on activities that will strengthen their employability skills.

A layout of the five day camp is listed below:

July 11

 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Health & Human Services at Clinton Fire, EMS & YMCA; 

1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Health & Human Services at Sampson Community College.

July 12

 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Ag & Healthy Living at Hubbs Corn Maze, Clinton; 

1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. “Stop the Bleed” at Sampson Community College. 

July 13

9:30 a.m. - 11:50 a.m. Trades and Industry at Hog Slat and Schindler, Clinton;

Noon Smithfield Foods Processing at Sampson Community College; 
1 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. Trades and Industry at Sampson Community College.

July 14 

9:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Business, Finance, Marketing & Military at the Fayetteville Woodpeckers Stadium and the Airborne & Special Ops Museum. 

July 15

9:45 a.m. - 2 p.m. Employability Skills at Alfredo’s Italian Restaurant, Clinton.
