Cumberland County NextGen staff to host hiring event

The NCWorks Career Center Cumberland County NextGen staff will host a hiring event, Thursday, Sept. 15, from 4 pm to 6:30 pm at the Cumberland County Library North Regional Branch. The goal is to connect young adult talent to careers. Several select businesses will be interviewing and hiring at the event. The event is intended for 14-24 year olds and those that are launching their way into the workforce, but all members of the public are welcome. 

 

Librarian Robin Deffendall will be holding a class both the Monday before the event and during the event itself to teach people how to put their resume together.

 

“People who have trouble writing their resumes are very limited in how they can present themselves. Having a professional resume put together really gives them the tools they need also to fill out the job application and present themselves well on that. So it's very important that people get help when they need it, and I really enjoy being able to give them that help,” shared Deffendall. 

 

For anyone who cannot make it to the event, there are actions that can be taken to access these valuable resources. Individuals are invited to schedule an appointment at the career center for resume assistance, interview preparation, and opportunities to link their skills to available careers. Additionally, the library offers resources such as resume building software, Brainfuse Adult Learning Center and other free tools to help individuals looking for employment.
