Bethany area residents have opportunity to comment on land use plan

Cumberland County will hear public comments Tuesday on its land use plan on 11,204 acres east of Fayetteville.

Residents will get a look at the Bethany Area Land Use Draft Plan during a public meeting on Tuesday.

The meeting, conducted by The Cumberland County Planning & Inspections Department, will allow attendees to hear about the plan as well as voice their comments and concerns.

“We’re encouraging all residents and interested parties to attend this meeting,” said planning and inspections director Rawls Howard in a Longleaf Pine REALTORS Association press release. “Staff and appointed officials will consult this plan when making future recommendations and decisions for this area on rezoning cases and ordinance updates.”

All other areas within Cumberland County have already adopted detailed land use plans.

Bethany, located about 10 miles east of Fayetteville, comprises roughly 11,204 acres of land.

Public participation and comment on the plan began in early 2020. The plan analyzes the current condition of the area and will aid in the development process.

Cumberland County has published that process and the plan moving forward on the county website.

The meeting will take place 6-8 p.m. on June 29 at Center Baptist Church at 4980 Wade-Stedman Road in Wade.
