North Carolina is celebrating “Employ A Veteran Week,” From Nov. 7 through Nov.11, with a variety of events to help connect veterans to jobs and other services.

“We owe our military service members, veterans and their families a debt of gratitude for their contributions to their communities and our nation,” Governor Cooper said in a press release. “In addition to honoring our heroes with jobs, employers get excellent, well trained, motivated and disciplined employees when they hire veterans, and we want to support and encourage more of it."

Local events focused on helping veterans find employment and access other services are scheduled throughout the week across the state. Two events will be held the Greater Fayetteville Business coverage area.

In Fayetteville, there will be a Veterans hiring event at the NCWorks Career Center, located at 490 N. McPherson Church Rd., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10. The Department of Commerce has 70 NCWorks Veterans Services professionals, all of whom are veterans themselves, whose mission is to help veterans find good jobs and training opportunities.

In Carthage, there will be a Veterans resource event at the Moore County Agricultural Building, located at 707 Pinehurst Ave., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10.

“Veterans have the skills, training, experience, work ethic and leadership ability that all types of North Carolina businesses need,” said N.C. Commerce Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders in a press release. “As our ‘First in Talent’ plan makes clear, helping veterans make the transition to the civilian workforce is an economic imperative for our state.”

In early 2022, the Commerce Department introduced a new resource for Veterans partnering with Hilton Hotels and their national Hilton Honors Military Program. Through this partnership, veterans, transitioning service members and qualified military spouses who need to travel while searching for work may be eligible for accommodations at a Hilton property.

Interested veterans can contact or visit their local NCWorks Career Center and ask to speak with a veterans representative.

More veteran specific programs through NCWorks can be found online at veterans.ncworks.gov.
