Walker selected as Cumberland County’s 2022 Young Farmer of the Year

Thomas Walker was selected as the 2022 Cumberland County Farm Bureau Outstanding Young

Farmer of the Year. Walker is a fourth generation farmer that farms alongside his father, David, in the Wade Community where they produce soybeans, corn, and wheat. 

County Extension Director Lisa Childers shared that the Outstanding Young Farmer is selected by the Cumberland County Farm Bureau Board each year. Each year they look for farmers that are 35 or younger, a resident of Cumberland County, actively engaged in farming, and involved with the local Farm Bureau.   

Thomas is a graduate of Cape Fear High School and NC State University Agriculture Institute. His interest in farming has been present since a very young age.

Mr. Walker was recognized and honored during the annual Farm City Week Luncheon, sponsored by Kiwanis Club of Fayetteville, Cumberland County Cooperative Extension, Cumberland County Farm Bureau, and Cape Fear Farm Credit.
