The CSX Corporation will temporarily close multiple railroad crossings in the downtown Fayetteville area from Feb. 13-18 in order to conduct routine railroad maintenance.
Six railroad crossings will be closed affecting Hay and Russell Streets. Blount Street will not be affected by these closures.
More than 15 railroad crossings will be closed on the “Vander Spur” affecting Hay Street, and all intersections along Russell Street. The multiple closures are due to the work being conducted in close proximity at nearly the same time.
In total, more than 20 railroad crossings will be closed across the city and CSX plans to move farther east closing several of NCDOT’s secondary routes, such as Sunnyside School, Sids Mill and Old Vander roads, and along N.C. 53 and N.C. 210 east of Interstate 95.
Residents should also be aware of three other closures on Whitfield Street southeast of Robeson Street, Moore Street between the intersections Orange Street and Chatham Street and Cumberland Street north of Ramsey Street.
Detour signs will direct traffic around the closures. The track closures will last approximately two days. Residents should expect to encounter delays and prepare for a longer commute.
Questions and concerns should be addressed to CSX Corps. by calling 800-232-0144 or going online to csx.com.
