Hightower brings experience to Fayetteville Cumberland Economic Development Corporation

The Fayetteville Cumberland Economic Development Corporation announced the hiring of a new director of communications Monday. 

Maarja Hightower, CAE has more than 17 years of experience in marketing and communications initiatives nationally and worldwide.

“I’m energized by the incredible opportunity to join FCEDC and lead the communications efforts of this vital organization,” Hightower said. “I look forward to collaborating with the team, and FCEDC Board of Directors, to further expand the reach of FCEDC and proactively promote the vibrant community of Fayetteville and Cumberland County to industry, stakeholders and national media.” 

Hightower said her aim is to support and represent the communications, events and PR efforts of the EDC. at the state, national and international levels. 

With her educational background in media and journalism and business, Hightower previously served as the Director of Marketing for global professional association Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI). 

FCEDC President and CEO Robert Van Geons made comment on the potential for Hightower’s positive impact with the EDC.

“Maarja’s depth of experience and knowledge in communications, association management, and events will enhance our talented team and serve us well in telling our community’s unique and authentic story,” he said.
