Fayetteville Technical Community College recently announced two new partnerships meant to open industry doors for students and strengthen the area's workforce.

FTCC has partnered with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina to offer a pre-licensing program that provides required training for individuals who wish to become insurance agents and they also announced a regional partnership with Richmond Community College to help surrounding counties meet local workforce needs.

The North Carolina Department of Insurance requires individuals interested in becoming insurance agents to complete an approved and mandated pre-licensing education course, such as the FTCC program.

FTCC’s program begins with training in interpersonal skills and workplace skills that involve math, documents and graphics. Students who successfully complete that portion of the training then take three pre-licensing insurance courses for life insurance, health insurance and Medicare Supplement and Long-Term Care Insurance. Upon successful completion of each pre-licensing insurance course, students receive an admission ticket to take the N.C. Department of Insurance exam in those areas.

“FTCC is pleased to team with Blue Cross NC on this program. The program provides students with the required training they need to go into insurance sales and prepares them for the state’s licensing exams. Through its Agent Diversity Initiative, Blue Cross NC is offering scholarships to qualified students - and there’s no requirement that these students go to work for Blue Cross. This program can lead directly to good-paying jobs and open pathways into other careers in the insurance industry. We’re very proud to connect our students with this great opportunity,” shared Dean of Marketing, Records & Enrollment for Corporate & Continuing Education Amy McLamb.

Applications for this program are currently being accepted on a rolling basis. For more information visit https://www.faytechcc.edu/corporate-continuing-education/ftcc-blue-cross-nc-opportunity/

FTCC’s regional partnership with Richmond Community College aims to help surrounding counties meet local workforce needs.

Dr. Dale McInnis, President of RCC, and Dr. Mark Sorrells, President of FTCC, have joined forces to offer several specialized training programs, including those for Respiratory Therapy Assistant, Funeral Service, Paralegal, Speech Language Pathology and Electric Utility: Substation and Relay Technology.

“The economy is changing rapidly. We need to be more responsive to that, and we can do that together,” Sorrells said in a press release. “We’re very excited about the partnership with Richmond. We look forward to growing this opportunity with Richmond Community College in other program areas where it makes sense. And I can assure you from Fayetteville Tech’s standpoint, that this will be a win-win for both colleges.”

McInnis called the partnership an example of “collaboration replacing competition” between two of the state’s 58 community colleges and pointed out the goal of making the process of training smooth for students.

The colleges’ collaboration will allow students to pursue career pathways currently unavailable in their home community.

RCC students will have opportunities to transfer into the following FTCC programs once their first year of study is complete: Respiratory Therapy Assistant, Funeral Service, Paralegal, and Speech Language Pathology. Similarly, FTCC students will have options to transfer to RCC to complete the Electric Utility: Substation and Relay Technology program after their first year.
