The North Carolina Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service has
presented the 2023 Governor’s Volunteer Service Award to 8 recipients and 1 volunteer group from Cumberland County.
Individual award recipients are:
Katherine Dempsey, Liz Hart, Robert Sparks, Grant Bennett, Elaine Saleeby, Hadassah Judy Toney, Carol Ballard, and David Ickes.
Group award recipients: Living Water Assembly of God.
In addition, Cheyanne and Cali Rae Campos were chosen to receive the Governor’s Medallion Award which is given to the state’s top 20 volunteers.
The Governor’s Volunteer Service Award honors people who have shown concern and compassion for their neighbors by making a significant contribution to their community through volunteer service. The award was created in the Office of the Governor in 1979. All the Cumberland County winners will receive their awards at Cumberland County Commissioners meeting on May 17. The Governor’s Medallion will be awarded on May 9.
