Fair staff are still looking for sponsors for Sept. 1, 3, 7, 8 and 10. September 8 could also become a themed night depending on the sponsor.

Organizers also shared they would like to also hold a mini “Touch a Truck” event for fair guests on Sept. 1 and are looking for participants.

The fair is also looking for grant opportunities to the tune of $24,000 to help purchase copies of Charlotte's Web for students in the Cumberland County School System.

“We are partnering with the school system and with the Cumberland County Library, we are working hard to be able to purchase 4,000 Charlotte’s Web books and then send them out to public school kids in the fourth grade as well as some of our private school friends, and any of those folks that want to take advantage of that. So we're trying to promote it. It's an exhibit but it's also more than that, it’s a fair but it's more than that, we want to try to connect with our educators. With COVID You know, so many kids got behind in reading. And so we want to use this as an opportunity for them and for us,” shared Agriculture Extension Director Lisa Childers during her update on upcoming exhibits.

Williams shared that the goal is to introduce new generations to the state fair, and has seen a trend of attendees ranging from teens to young adults, to the long-time fair goers in the older age demographic.

“I’d like to see a few more kids. We’re getting more older kids, young adults, and then there are the people who've always wanted to come to the fair or that have been to the fair every year, getting my age and older. So now I just need to get that younger generation back into coming out being excited for the fair. And we're hoping that with Charlotte's Web, that it'll actually generate a little more on the pre-K to fifth grade level coming into the fair a little more,” shared Williams.
