Springing up in Spring Lake; Town sees an increase in restaurant franchises

The Town of Spring Lake, NC is experiencing a string of expansions that are catching the eye of several restaurant franchises that are building new locations in the area.

At their regular meeting held on Aug. 14, the Board of Aldermen approved a Commercial Group Development Plan containing approximately 6.88 acres of land at 317 NC HWY 210 for a new Starbucks location.

Plans pulled from townofspirnglake.com Current plans for the Starbucks include a 2,5000 square-foot stand alone building located in front of the main building at the Skyland Plaza shopping center.

Expected to be located in the Skyland Plaza shopping center, the current plans for the restaurant include a 2,500 square-foot sit down restaurant placed in front of the shopping center instead of inside one of the suites.

The plans were submitted by George Rose on behalf of the owners of the Spring Lake Shopping Center.

The Spring Lake location will be the fourth for The Wing Company Franchise.

Other restaurants currently under construction that are expected to be open to the public in the coming months include a new Dunkin Donuts location on Spring Avenue across from the Walgreens Pharmacy and a new Wing Company location coming soon near Main Street.

“We really saw things change when Cookout came, and Zaxby’s came, and then you see, Dunkin starts rolling in and now Starbucks, so it really started that franchise rush,” shared Interim Town Manager Jason Williams. “That’s one of the biggest things, we’ve got to get people interested in coming back to Main Street. Main Street took a hit because of the bridge being built and things like that, so we want to try to bring that back.”
