We all scream for ice cream; Local entrepreneur starts ice cream truck with his son

New Director of FTCC’s Center for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Small Business Ricardo Murphy is well equipped to lead aspiring entrepreneurs because he himself is a tried and true businessman.

Murphy is a licensed North Carolina car dealer. However, he wanted to instill his entrepreneurial spirit in his son, so he sold a few of his cars from the car business, purchased an ice cream truck and started a family business.

Now, Murphy spends his weekends operating Cooler Than Cold with the help of his six year old son.

“I just wanted to set the foundation for my son. So as he’s coming along through school, he learns the discipline and responsibility that nothing’s given. So he spends his Saturdays and Sundays with me on the ice cream truck, passing out ice cream. It's Cumberland County based. We do a lot of activities with local schools, some stuff with the colleges and we do a lot of giving back in the community,” shared Murphy.
