The newest addition to the Raeford restaurant scene, southern fixings focused restaurant The Barn House, is now pleased to offer new additions to their menu and new dinner hours to hungry residents.
The Barn House, owned and operated by the Scott family, features a menu offering “food like your mama makes”. Originally starting out with just breakfast and lunch on the menu including items like mama’s sausage gravy, a build your own breakfast bowl along with an assortment of sandwiches and salads, the spot began offering select dinner options on Monday, Nov. 27 along with extended hours to welcome in guests.
“Here in Raeford, we do not have a lot of restaurants where they provide dinner. Most everything shuts down around lunchtime around here,” shared Owner Janie Scott. “I feel like it's something that was needed around here, especially here on the outskirts.”
Located at 1313 US-401 BUS, the spot was previously another eatery known as Jess’s Place. Scott shared that when the property became available, she jumped on the chance to turn it into what is now known as The Barn House, with the name matching the building’s classic red and white exterior.
Officially opening three weeks ago in Raeford, Scott used her previous experience as a caterer to create a southern style “home cooked” style menu based on recipes from her family members.
Now after being open for a time, Scott shared that it was time to grow with a dinner menu that includes chicken casserole, shrimp and grits, lasagna and more.
“The dinner menu is really what I wanted to start out with, but I just wasn't able to in the beginning. It was just figuring out how to function in a small space. So now that I’ve got that panned out, now I'm actually able to do what I wanted to do, which is more along the lines of the dinner menu,” shared Scott.
The Barn House is now open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and the restaurant takes a brief break and closes from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to prepare for dinner.
Overall, Scott shared that she just wants to spread some love to the community through her food.
“This has always been something that I’ve wanted to do, something like a small mom and pop hole in the wall. I just feel like if people come in, they’ll want to come back again and that's what I'm hoping for. I want them to feel at home when they come in.”
