Both the Cumberland County Department of Social Services (DSS) and Cape Fear Valley Health, in collaboration with First Source, will host free in-person workshops to assist qualifying residents in signing up for Medicaid under North Carolina’s new expansion.
The event with CFVH will take place on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cape Fear Valley Center for Medical Education and Neuroscience Institute at 1638 Owen Drive, Fayetteville. There are no reservations for this event; it is first-come, first-served.
At Cape Fear Valley’s event, there will be hands-on help for individuals to check if they qualify for Medicaid and assist them in applying for Medicaid online. Residents can also check their eligibility and sign up online at epass.nc.gov or through a paper application or in-person at the local Department of Social Services (DSS).
Cumberland County DSS will hold an enrollment event this Saturday, Dec. 2 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the main DSS building located at 1225 Ramsey St., Fayetteville.
“This is a massive undertaking for the Department of Social Services and our staff has been working extremely hard to make sure we are prepared and ready to assist our residents with this important transition,” said Cumberland County DSS Director Brenda Jackson in a press release. “We are holding this event to provide a convenient opportunity outside of regular business hours for residents to come out and receive in-person assistance navigating the Medicaid application process.”
Jackson also encouraged residents to go to epass.nc.gov to apply online. This is the fastest and easiest way for residents to apply for benefits and will help reduce wait times at DSS.
People who believe they may qualify are encouraged to visit medicaid.ncdhhs.gov for comprehensive details, application guidance and to receive updated information and notifications about Medicaid benefits.
