Applications are open for firefighter positions; due Jan. 12

Applications are open for both entry-level and lateral-entry firefighter positions with the Fayetteville Fire Department. Applicants can apply online at FayettevilleNC.gov/Jobs. Applications are due Jan. 12.

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will take part in several assessments to proceed through the selection process. Assessments include a written exam (no fire experience required), a physical ability test and panel interviews. Entry level candidates selected for the Fayetteville Fire Department will attend an 18-week fire training academy at the Fayetteville Fire Training Center.

Lateral entry programs are available for current, full-time firefighters who meet certain requirements and may be eligible for up to a $3,000 hiring and retention incentive upon hire.

“Our selection process is extensive and challenging but a career with the Fayetteville Fire Department is well worth the effort,” Stephen Shakeshaft, Recruitment Captain said in a press release. “We hope our latest addition of a Lateral-Entry Incentive Program will encourage current, full-time firefighters to explore career opportunities with the Fayetteville Fire Department. Both lateral-entry and other fully certified candidates will be eligible for an abbreviated academy, putting qualified, trained professionals on the trucks and protecting our community faster.”

Starting salary range of $40,800 to $46,257 depending on experience
