FSU employs inaugural director of media relations

Devon Smith

Fayetteville State University welcomed Devon Smith as their inaugural Director of Media Relations in November 2023.

His role with the university's Office of Strategic Communications is leading planning and execution of media and public relations strategy and serves as the media's first contact for information.

Smith brings 12 years of experience in communications and multimedia production. Prior to joining FSU, he served as the Public Information Specialist for Media Relations with the City of Fayetteville. He also brings experience in higher education communications previously working at Elon University in the Office of Marketing and Communications.

He was raised in Fayetteville and graduated from Douglas Byrd High Senior High in 2010. He then received his bachelor’s degree from North Carolina A&T State University in 2015 and master’s degree from Liberty University in 2020.
