FCEDC seeks city’s best cocktail with La Fayette Cognac “People’s Choice” Contest

The search is on for the City of Fayetteville’s best cocktail! The Fayetteville Cumberland County Economic Development Corporation (FCEDC) has issued a challenge to some of Fayetteville's best cocktail spots in celebration of La Fayette Cognac, a new cognac brought to Fayetteville in late 2023 by the FCEDC team.

Now, to help introduce this new cognac to the people of Fayetteville, they are sponsoring a “People’s Choice” Cocktail Competition.

The People’s Choice Cocktail Competition showcases the talent and creativity of the amazing bartenders in our area, and also shares the versatility of the Cognac itself, which is best known for being served neat.

La Fayette cognacs are available at five Fayetteville area ABC stores: Westwood Shopping Center, Hope Mills, Ramsey Commons, Raeford Road and Owen Drive. People are encouraged to visit all participating locations and try their cocktail featuring the La Fayette Cognac.

Seven area spots have cocktails made with La Fayette Cognac. Restaurants participating in the competition are:

Gaston’s Brewing Company

Haymount Truck Stop

Gaston Brewing Company's Liberté Doré. This cocktail is made with Cognac, apricot brandy, lemon juice and simple syrup, garnished with a lemon wedge and thyme.

The FCEDC announced that through its supplier, CTS Distribution, Hardy Cognac was able to bring La Fayette Cognac to Cumberland County as part of the 200th anniversary celebration of the Marquis de Lafayette’s visit to his namesake city on March 4, 1825.

This marks the first time La Fayette Cognac has been made available for purchase in North Carolina.

The People’s Choice cocktail contest runs from Dec. 1, 2023 – Jan.31, 2024. The winning cocktail will be crowned after Feb. 1, 2024.
