In conjunction with the City of Fayetteville, The Greater Life of Fayetteville will be hosting a workshop designed for first-time homebuyers on Feb. 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at the Smith Recreation Center located at 1520 Slater Ave, in Fayetteville.

In this free co-parent community workshop,  participants will gain an understanding of the entire home buying process, including budgeting for homeownership, shopping for a home, obtaining a mortgage, closing procedures, and the responsibilities of maintaining the home after purchase.

The featured speaker for the event will be Bernadine Simmons, a community development specialist with the City of Fayetteville’s Economic & Community Development department.

“We work towards doing a co-parent community workshop once a month,” shared Greater Life of Fayetteville’s President and CEO Georgeanna Pickney. “When I purchased my first home, I had no idea what benefits that I could have received being a first time homebuyer and I thought it was difficult myself. And I missed out on it because the realtor, not here I lived in Colorado at the time, then did not tell me about the benefits.”

Pickney shared that the main goal of this workshop is to get this information to the people and areas that need it most. She shared that workshops like these help build on The Greater Life of Fayetteville’s mission to help “Students of Great Opportunities” and their families who may meet the threshold of low to medium income.

“The program is called PIN which means People In Need. We offer this educational information to the community for them to come, it’s free of charge, for them to get the tools that will help them as the whole family unit,” continued Pickney.

Along with a featured speaker, lenders, mortgage companies and other industry representatives of the homebuying process are also invited to attend and answer questions from the community.

Any industry experts interested in attending to speak with guests can contact The Greater Life of Fayetteville at 910-364-9531, Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. to inform them you’re coming.
