Moore County gathers citizen input for 2013 Land Use Plan

Moore County leaders have spent the month of February continually collecting public input on their 2013 Land Use Plan. 

The Plan, passed with the intention to be used “as a tool for making decisions about land development and future growth. The plan provides existing conditions of the County and offers guidance for Governmental leaders to make sound land use decisions. The plan provides goals and actions that can guide growth into the future,” according to wordage from the official documents. 

Now, in 2024, the Moore County Board of Commissioners invites citizens to comment regarding updates of the County’s 2013 Land Use Plan at scheduled public forums or via an online comment form. 

The Board specifically seeks citizen input regarding:

As of March 1, 2024 the following updates have been provided to residents by the County: 

On Jan. 18, 2024, the Board of Commissioners hosted a listening session in the evening at Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines to receive initial public input on conservation and development in the county and the preferred mix of land uses to support in the years ahead. More than 100 people attended the meeting and 23 people spoke, with others providing written comments on post-it notes and comment cards collected by the county. The comments received will help the commissioners as they decide what process to use in updating the County's Land Use Plan.

The conversation continued at a work session held by the Board of Commissioners on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Moore County Senior Enrichment Center.  At this follow-up meeting the commissioners were debriefed on the Jan. 18 listening session and discussed next steps.  As a result of the discussion, two additional public forums and a follow-up work session were scheduled.

The Board held a public forum on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. at the Union Pines High School Auditorium in Cameron.  The forum was well-attended and 19 people spoke in addition to offering written comments.

The Board held a public forum on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. at the North Moore High School Auditorium in Robbins. The meeting was well-attended and 17 people spoke in addition to offering written comments.

The Board convened for a Special Meeting on Friday, Feb. 16, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Moore County Senior Enrichment Center and discussed feedback received and potential next steps.
