Bartender at popular downtown restaurant ventures into mobile bartending

Anthony Jackson, bartender at the popular downtown restaurant Circa 1800 is now entering into the mobile bartending business.

“I had never bartended before the time when we [Circa] reopened after Covid. I immediately fell in love with the science aspect of it. Coming from a civil engineering background, the chemistry side just really clicked with me. I dove head first into reading books about the history of bartending, and the classics from the late 1800's/ early 1900's. The best bartenders from that era wrote books as a way to share their craft, much like social media is used today. I tried to make our bar at Circa to match the quality and uniqueness of our food. Classic cocktails with a new twist with local ingredients. All that led to me wanting to expand into mobile bartending because each event will be a new challenge,” Jackson said.

Jackson bought a trailer and has begun offering his services with his new business the Southern Spirit Guide. Jackson will provide bartending services for weddings, private parties and more as well as offer cocktail classes.

“The Southern Spirit Guide name was something we put a lot of thought and time into. I was definitely raised to be a southern gentleman, and my accent is completely southern, so we knew that it would have something along those lines in the name. My daughter is graduating in December from UNCC with a marketing degree. We would bounce names around with the usual bartending terms and such with Brandy and she would give us a thumbs up or thumbs down. Halloween is one of our favorite holidays, and with the word play of spirits and alcohol, and the fact that we enjoy ghost tours when we go out of town, the name the Southern Spirit Guide just fit,” shared Jackson.
