A roundabout will replace an all-way stop not far from Campbell University.
The N.C. Department of Transportation awarded the $2.7 million contract on Tuesday to Highland Paving Co. The Fayetteville-based company will construct the roundabout at Leslie Campbell Avenue (N.C. 27) and Old Stage Road outside Buies Creek.
A roundabout improves traffic flow, as drivers need only to slow down to enter it; they must yield, however, to traffic already inside the circle. This NCDOT webpage has two videos showing the ease of navigating through them.
Roundabouts are also safer than conventional intersections. They reduce deadly and serious-injury crashes by 79%, according to an NCDOT study done in 2020.
Construction is expected to start this summer, and be completed by the following summer.
