The voter-approved Parks & Recreation bond project, Senior Center East, attracted nearly 2,000 people in the first week of operation from May 3 – May 10. The center’s ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Friday, May 3.
The $9.2 million senior center, located at 917 Washington Drive, officially opened its doors for operation on May 6 to seniors 55 and older. The facility features a warm water pool, fitness and exercise room, two racquetball courts, a multi-purpose room, library, indoor and outdoor lounge areas, locker rooms, billiards room, a card room, and a kitchen.
Seniors can participate in a variety of physical and mental health programs and activities at the Center. The facility is also available for other uses which includes community meetings and potential athletic competitions for seniors.
The center features a 15,360 interior square footage and an additional 2,850 square foot covered patio. The center is easily accessible and free to seniors. In the future, seniors will be able to use the Fayetteville Area System of Transit “Route 12 Bus” to travel to the center or arrange a ride via the FASTtrac! ADA service, if eligible.
