The City of Fayetteville and the N.C. Department of Transportation recently partnered to upgrade the safety along the Murchison Road Corridor. This decision came after several Fayetteville City Council members and residents asked NCDOT to review the intersection at Blue Street and Murchison Road for safety improvements.
Americans with Disabilities Act compliant curb ramps were installed on the sidewalks at this location. Additionally, NCDOT and the City added signage and high-visibility crosswalks consisting of wide white stripes which are more visible to motorists and pedestrians alike and are intended to promote pedestrian safety.
Additionally, NCDOT crews also trimmed nearby trees and other foliage to improve visibility for drivers and pedestrians at this intersection.
The ongoing partnership between NCDOT and the City of Fayetteville is paramount in situations similar to this because the City maintains Blue Street, while NCDOT maintains Murchison Road.
The City of Fayetteville completed work at the intersection on June 25 with NCDOT completing sign installation on July 12.
