The N.C. Department of Transportation is excited to launch a website dedicated to the Sandhills Area Improvement Projects. The website is the best place for residents and stakeholders to get the most up-to-date information on the transportation improvement projects.

The Sandhills Area Improvement Projects currently includes three road projects in Aberdeen, Southern Pines, and Pinehurst. The projects aim to improve safety, ease traffic congestion, and reduce travel time, leading to an improved quality of life for residents. The roads included in the project are listed below.

Current projects in the works are highlighted on a site map.

Planning and development are currently underway with initial construction efforts slated to begin Fall 2024. These initial construction efforts include clearing and grubbing of vegetation from the right-of-way and relocation of dry utilities such as power and gas.

As construction progresses, efforts will be made to minimize impacts to travelers. Regular updates will be shared with the community about the construction efforts to help travelers make advanced plans to avoid delays. Construction is anticipated to be complete by Spring 2029.

Residents can visit the website, Sandhills Area Improvement Projects, to learn more about the project, view project maps, sign up for the mailing list, and more.

For questions and concerns, email the project team at sandhills-area-projects@publicinput.com or call 1-984-205-6615 and enter code 7275 when prompted to leave a message.
