Temporary road closure in downtown Fayetteville for stormwater project

A portion of Ray Avenue and Maiden Lane in the downtown area has been temporarily closed due to a city stormwater construction project. Detour signs have been installed to accommodate traffic flow.  

Construction began on Sept. 30 and is expected to be completed in late February 2025. 

This stormwater project involves the installation of 300 feet of new 42-inch stormwater pipe and 450 feet of 12-inch water supply pipe along Ray Avenue, between Maiden Lane and Cross Creek. Additionally, 400 feet of a 24-inch stormwater pipe will be installed along Maiden Lane from Ray Avenue to just beyond Burgess Street. 

This $2.96 million project will improve drainage conditions in the area, helping to prevent flooding and manage stormwater more effectively along Ray Avenue and Maiden Lane. 

Fayetteville Area System of Transit (FAST) routes four and five will operate on a detour until further notice. Passengers can visit RideFast.net to learn more about FAST detours.  

Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan accordingly for alternative routes and allow for additional travel times to and from destinations.
