City invites residents to help keep Fayetteville Beautiful

Fayetteville Beautiful, the city’s community clean up event, is set for Oct. 12. Fayetteville Beautiful is an opportunity for residents to come together as a community to reduce the amount of litter and other pollutants on city streets, parks and in stormwater systems. 

The Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation (FCPR) department has a team that 

focuses on grounds and right-of-way maintenance throughout the city. The mission of the grounds and right-of-way maintenance team is to create a positive community impact by providing clean and well-maintained greenspaces throughout Fayetteville and Cumberland County.  

Last year, the FCPR team collected 1,364 tons of litter that was taken to the landfill.  

“When we come together as a community to clean up our streets and parks, we’re creating a cleaner environment and making Fayetteville a beautiful place to live, work and recreate,” said City Manager Douglas J. Hewett in a press release. “We try our best to keep our city clean and green but it requires everyone’s effort to maintain it.”  

Residents can sign up to participate in the community clean up effort at FayettevilleBeautiful.com. Supplies such as litter bags, gloves, water and snacks will be provided to participants.  

There are two options to collect supplies. Participants can pickup their items at the Sustainable Sandhills’ Electric Vehicle Car Show event on Oct. 5 at Fayetteville Technical Community College Tony Rand Center from 3 to 6 p.m. or they can stop by the FCPR Administrative Office located at 280 Lamon Street. Those who are picking up supplies at the office are asked to call 910-433-1556 beforehand so staff will have the supplies ready prior to their arrival.
