The State of North Carolina is expecting to release a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for an unprecedented amount of State and Federal funding under the Helene & PTC8 Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP). Over $1.5 billion is expected to be available statewide for residential elevations, property acquisitions, land stabilization and infrastructure projects. In preparation for any potential Hazard Mitigation projects awarded to Cumberland County, FEMA requires a public notice to be posted.
The purpose of acquisition projects is to permanently eliminate the risk of future flood or other hazard damages and to prevent health and safety risks for property owners. Structure elevation and mitigation reconstruction projects aim to significantly reduce potential future flood damage to structures, enhancing resilience and ensuring the safety of their occupants.
Property owners who would like additional information on HMGP can visit ncdps.gov/our-organization/emergency-management/hazard-mitigation/about-hazard-mitigation to view an eight minute step-by-step guide on the application process.
