Hair fads come and go, but a good cut at a good price never goes out of style.

It’s a tradition that the owners of American Barber Shop are banking on as they held a grand opening and -- appropriately -- a cutting-of-the-ribbon ceremony Thursday for the new business at 118 Hay St., in downtown Fayetteville.

The business is designed to “provide quality service for your entire family,” according to the shop’s Facebook page.

But the shop’s about more than the “face” -- services at American Barber go beyond just the top of the head.

“Fades, shaves, a signature steam and shave, beard, and mustache care, manicures and pedicures are all on the menu” at the shop, which prides itself on the mix of services it provides.

But it’s “attention to quality that makes (us) stand out,” the owners say.

Katlin Neese, director of the Women’s Business Center of Fayetteville, was on hand to welcome the shop to downtown. Owners Glenise and Antoine LaSane, along with several other family members, used a super-sized set of shears to cut the ribbon and officially kick off the shop’s business of cutting hair.

“I’m so excited to congratulate Glenise on the opening of American Barber Shop,” Neese said. “She’s just a few steps away from us and we’re happy to have a new neighbor.”

The Women’s Business Center is part of Fayetteville’s Center for Economic Empowerment and Development on Hay Street, a block away from American Barber Shop.

Other staff members from the Women’s Business Center also were on hand, including business consultants Stuart Walters and Sara Kanady.
