RCC's Medical Sonography achieves accreditation from CAAHEP

Robeson Community College is proud to announce that its Medical Sonography program has achieved initial accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS) in Abdomen-Extended and Obstetrics and Gynecology.

“Accreditation of an ultrasound program means that we have been recognized and evaluated by a professional accrediting body to meet specific standards of excellence and quality toward student education in ultrasound,” stated Program Manager Lindsey Norris in a press release. “Achieving accreditation was a goal that we knew we wanted to obtain early on. We wanted to ensure that we are delivering quality education and effective training to prepare students to be successful sonographers in the workforce.”

The Medical Sonography program accepted its first cohort in the spring of 2023 and accepted another cohort the following fall when the program began accepting eight students annually. In October of 2024, the program graduated its first class with six students completing the program, making history at Robeson Community College.

“We had 100% job placement from our first graduating class, with all students accepting jobs as sonographers,” Norris stated in a press release.

The college is currently accepting applications for consideration for the next cohort. The deadline to apply is Mar. 31, 2025. Students seeking to complete general education credits can do so through the upcoming 12-week session that starts Feb. 11 and 8-week classes that begin Mar. 17.
