Major road project coming to Hope Mills; Congested sections of Rockfish and Golfview roads will be widened

Two congested routes that surround the town of Hope Mill’s parks, athletic fields and most of its public buildings will be widened, after the N.C. Department of Transportation awarded a $21.6 million contract this month.

Fred Smith Co. of Raleigh and its subcontractors will widen Golfview Road between North Main Street and Rockfish Road, as well as widen Rockfish Road between Golfview Road and North Main Street.

The congested, two-lane roads will be upgraded into four lanes with a raised median and concrete curbs and gutters and drainage structures. In addition, multilane roundabouts will be built at Rockfish and Golfview roads and at Park Boulevard and Rockfish Road.

Construction is expected to begin this spring and take until the spring of 2028 to complete.

The work will be done in phases, generally by constructing one side while maintaining the current two-way pattern of traffic. Then, traffic will be shifted onto the new section until the four-lane road can be completed and fully opened. Drivers should slow down and be alert for construction workers and equipment when traveling in this area.
