U.S. Army Airborne & Special Operations Museum undergoes statue conservation efforts

The U.S. Army Airborne & Special Operations Museum (ASOM) is once again ensuring the long-term preservation of its iconic outdoor statues through a comprehensive conservation effort. This week, specialists from Terra Mare Conservation LLC, based in Charleston, SC, are conducting crucial cleaning, repairs, and restoration work on Iron Mike, General Shelton and Constant Vigilance.

Last performed in 2021, this conservation process is vital for protecting the statues from environmental wear and damage. Experts will remove corrosion, apply protective wax coatings, and repair any cracks that could allow water intrusion, helping to maintain the sculptures for future generations.
