The Home Builders Association of Fayetteville (HBAF) will be bringing some of the area’s top construction companies right to their future workforce. On Thursday, April 3, the HBAF will be hosting their first Construction Industry Hiring Event at the Horace Sisk Gymnasium located at 2114 Hull Road on the Fayetteville Technical Community College campus.
From 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., up to 250 selected students including seniors from Cumberland County Schools and FTCC students from trade and business programs will be able to connect with local companies to share their resumes and be interviewed for opportunities in their field.
“We partnered with Cumberland County Schools and FTCC to make this event happen,” shared HBAF Executive Officer Natalie Fryer. “Hosting a hiring event was a goal of ours in our three-year strategic plan. We know skilled labor shortage is a major challenge with our members. We want to provide our members avenues to meet potential employees and ways to promote the construction industry.”
Fryer shared that vendors who will be on sight are all HBAF members, and the goal is to have 30 vendors participating in the event. The following have already confirmed they will be in attendance:
If a business isn’t ready to hire, Cumberland County Schools will have representatives available to discuss internship opportunities through the ICON Summer Internship Program, which allows CCS students aged 16+ to apply and interview to work in paid positions.
The ICON program enables students to apply skills learned in school to real-life work activities through career exploration and exposure to the real workplace, helping them prepare for their future.
There are still places available for vendors who would like to meet with students. There is no charge to participate as a vendor, but registration is required. Interested vendors can register through HBAF here.
