Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra announces leadership change

After four years with the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra, Anna Meyer is stepping down as Executive Director of the organization, effective May 23, 2025. Meyer’s husband accepted a job that will require the pair to move to Minneapolis, Minn.
“While this is a wonderful step for our family, the choice to leave the Fayetteville Symphony has not been an easy one,” said Meyer in a press release. “Serving as Executive Director has been one of the greatest honors of my professional life. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to work alongside a talented staff, dedicated Board members, and extraordinary musicians in service of our dynamic community.”
Meyer started as the Symphony’s Community Engagement Manager in 2021, and quickly moved into the Executive Director role in 2022. She was instrumental in rebuilding the Symphony’s audience following the COVID-19 pandemic and expanding awareness of the Symphony throughout the community. Some of Meyer’s key accomplishments include establishing programs on Fort Bragg, cultivating a formal partnership with Fayetteville State University, and growing the organization’s audience and individual giving program. She has been an active member of the Fayetteville community, her accomplishments have been recognized in local publications, and she was a panelist at Greater Fayetteville Business Journal’s
Dr. Mark Regensburger, incoming Symphony Board Chair, is impressed by how well Meyer has built positive relationships between the Symphony and the community. “Anna has a natural gift for finding common ground, and for forging strong bonds. Our expansion beyond traditional orchestra audiences has brought in audiences from across the region, and her vision for participative programs has seen growth in both our youth orchestra and community band programs.”
The Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra has formed a search committee to guide the transition and hiring process for a new Executive Director.
“Of course, we hate to see Anna go,” said Regensburger in a press release, “but the timing is actually good. Anna is departing at the top of her game. She leaves us with a strong foundation and stable partnerships. I am convinced that we will find the right candidate to help lead your Symphony organization to a leading position in the region.”
Meyer is looking forward to the Symphony’s final concert of the 2024/25 concert season on April 26, 2025, 7:30 p.m., at Fayetteville State University Seabrook Auditorium. The concert will feature a trumpet concerto performed by Billy Hunter, Principal Trumpet of the New York Metropolitan Opera, and Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.
