Mac’s Speed Shop, the popular Carolina-born barbecue joint, is celebrating 20 years in business with a celebration across all nine restaurant locations in North and South Carolina. The anniversary celebration will include live music, food and drink features, limited-edition merch and a charitable giveback initiative—all designed to honor Mac’s humble roots, loyal customers and the community that has fueled its success.

Aligning with National Barbecue Month in May, this month’s anniversary activities begin Friday, May 16 on National Barbecue Day and run through Wednesday, May 28, which is National Brisket Day and Mac’s popular Bike/Jeep/Speed Night. Throughout 2025, Mac’s will continue to celebrate with activations, including a social series “20 Stories for 20 Years” spotlighting employees, fans and moments that made Mac’s a household name.

“We never imagined we’d still be cranking out barbecue 20 years later,” said co-founder Hall

Johnston in a press release. “It was a wild idea that just took off—five guys with no restaurant experience, a smoker from Texas and a whole lot of heart. But here we are, and it’s all because of the people who walked through our doors.”

Fayetteville residents can join the celebration at the local Mac’s Speed Shop located at 482 N McPherson Church Rd.
