City of Fayetteville to host public meeting set to discuss city project updates

City of Fayetteville residents and community members are encouraged to attend the Fayetteville Outfront public meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21 at the Dorothy D. Gilmore Adaptive Recreation Center, located at 1600 Purdue Drive in Fayetteville. This meeting will focus on updates regarding the 2016 parks and recreation bond projects, the 2022 Fayetteville General Obligation Bond projects and stormwater improvement projects. 

 

In 2016, voters approved a $35 million bond package to support parks and recreation projects to enhance communities across Fayetteville. With the approval of the bond, the city has been able to create more opportunities for residents of all ages to enjoy including splash pads, park and recreation center renovations, senior centers, the Rowan Street Skateboard Park and other new facilities. 

In 2022, residents voted for the Fayetteville General Obligation (GO) Bond allowing the city to have the authority to issue up $97 million to support projects in public safety, public infrastructure and housing opportunities. The transformative investments in the city’s infrastructure and operations are focusing on moving Fayetteville forward by improving the quality of life for residents by addressing needs related to safety and security.  

Staff will be there to discuss construction project updates in reference to the parks and recreation, public safety and infrastructure improvements. Details about the GO Bond can be found on the city’s website at  FayettevilleNC.gov/Bonds.  

Staff from the city’s Stormwater Division will also be there to provide updates on stormwater projects. The division actively addresses stormwater challenges through infrastructure upgrades, public outreach and flood mitigation projects. Currently, the city has $72 million worth of stormwater improvement projects in the design phase that will improve infrastructure, reduce flood risk and enhance the city. 

During this meeting, residents will have the opportunity to connect with city leadership and staff to answer questions and concerns about current and future projects.

The city has developed a capital project dashboard on the city’s website that allows residents to learn, track and review the status of various projects overseen by the city. This dashboard can be viewed by visiting Fayetteville NC.gov/Projects. Residents are encouraged to provide feedback about the newly, designed construction project tracker.  

Fayetteville Outfront is designed to foster open dialogue and meaningful engagement between City officials and community members. The next upcoming community meeting will be held on June 11 and a location will be announced prior to the meeting.
