Helen Street sidewalk project begins in Fayetteville

By Staff Report, posted May 22, 2025 on BizFayetteville.com

A sidewalk project to increase pedestrian safety and improve stormwater drainage on Helen Street is set to begin this week. Contractors will install approximately 2,400 linear feet of new sidewalk and curb ramps along the west side of Helen Street, between Stansfield Drive and Johnson Street.

This project will also involve upgrading the drainage infrastructure along this portion of Helen Street, including the replacement of selected driveway pipes to improve water flow.

This area was identified as an area in need of improved pedestrian access routes as well as stormwater improvements to reduce flood risk.

A lane closure will be in place throughout the duration of the project. Drivers should be alert for flaggers who will be guiding traffic through the construction zone.

The $500,000 project is funded by the 2022 voter-approved General Obligation (GO) Bond and is expected to be completed in mid-November.

GO Bond funding supports improvements to the city’s infrastructure and operations, enhancing quality of life and addressing needs related to safety and security. Projects funded by the bond include sidewalk upgrades, street repairs, intersection improvements, public safety initiatives, and housing opportunities.
