Cumberland County residents reminded of May 28 deadline for formal appeals of 2025 assessed values

By Staff Report, posted May 27, 2025 on BizFayetteville.com

The Cumberland County Tax Administration reminds property owners the period to submit a formal appeal to the Board of Equalization and Review for 2025 assessed values ends Wednesday, May 28. The Tax Administration Office recently completed the 2025 revaluation of all real property to reflect fair market value as of Jan. 1, 2025.

Value decision letters for informal appeals filed are expected to be mailed by the end of June. Taxpayers who receive a value decision notice may file a formal appeal with the Board of Equalization and Review within 15 days of the date on the notice.

Taxpayers who missed the informal appeal period, which ended March 24, may submit a formal appeal. The formal appeal must be received by 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2025, or be postmarked on May 28.

Taxpayers are encouraged to submit detailed information and/or documentation that supports their opinion of value or why they believe the assessed value does not reflect fair market value.

Appraisers will review submissions and reach out to taxpayers to explain the next steps in the appeal process.
