FirstCarolinaCare, located in 1930 N. Poplar Street, Suite 21, Southern Pines, submitted a notice to the North Carolina Department of Commerce of its plans to wind down operations.
According to their website, FirstCarolinaCare (FCC) is a not-for-profit insurance company, a jointly owned subsidiary of North Carolina-based FirstHealth of the Carolinas and Illinois-based Carle Health. FCC partners with Health Alliance⢠for administration of its health plans.
Health Alliance Medical Plans/FirstCarolinaCare is expected to incur mass layoffs according to the definition within the WARN Act. Employees will be separated in waves starting on July 8, 2025, and lasting approximately through October 2026.
It is expected these employment separations to be permanent with no bumping rights. Employees have been provided with written notice as to their expected exit window and will be given 60 day advance written notice of their actual separation date.
These layoffs will affect 49 full time employees and one part time employee for a total of 50 jobs lost.
