Dhan’s Kitchen is now serving customers in their new location. Due to high overhead costs, the owners closed their location in Haymount at the end of January and have now relocated to 432 Chatham St. where they celebrated their grand opening May 31.

Owned by Dhandai Tuitt and her husband, Dhan’s Kitchen serves high-quality, authentic Caribbean cuisine made from scratch.

“I like to cook. I like to eat. I like to feed people, and it's a pleasure when they enjoy the food. It gives me a good feeling,” shared Dhan.

Originally from Trinidad, Dhan and her husband moved to the United States and lived in New York for about 10 years before they moved to Fayetteville in 2011. They go back to New York City to buy ingredients in bulk every few months. Everything that they serve they make fresh.

The family-owned business started in 2016. They started with a food truck and then moved into their first brick and mortar location at 115 Oakridge Ave. After several years in business there, they’re now in their new location. Dhan and her husband are supported by her children and grandchildren who help out at the restaurant.

Dhan shared that their most popular menu item is doubles, a popular Trinidadian street food made of curried chickpeas served between two fried flatbreads. Other popular menu items include roti, curry chicken, curry shrimp and stewed oxtails. They also offer weekly specials. They offer vegan and vegetarian options as well to accommodate different dietary restrictions.

Dhan prioritizes community over pure profit, helping those in need and making sure that people do not leave her restaurant hungry even if they can’t afford a meal. Following the move, Dhan shared their loyal customers have followed them to their new space and continue to support the business. The restaurant maintains a welcoming atmosphere that is family-friendly and military friendly.

The new space is open Wednesday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
