Harnett County Schools breaks ground on new Flatwoods Middle School

Harnett County Schools hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, June 23, to

celebrate the start of construction for the district’s newest school, Flatwoods Middle School.

This event was attended by Superintendent W. Brooks Matthews, members of the Harnett County Board of Education, Harnett County cabinet members and several community leaders.

This multimillion-dollar project is made possible through a partnership with SFL+A Architects and METCON Construction and marks a significant milestone in the district’s continued commitment to student growth and community investment.

Flatwoods Middle School is designed to support the growing needs of the community and will feature state-of-the-art learning environments, flexible instructional spaces and modern amenities to support student success.

Construction is officially underway, with the new campus projected to open for students in the fall of 2026.
