FSU Receives $900,000 investment from Cape Fear Valley Health toward new Student Health and Wellness Center

Fayetteville State University (FSU) announced a transformative $900,000 investment from Cape Fear Valley Health today during a special ceremony held in the historic Seabrook Auditorium. The two-year commitment will support the construction and programming of FSU’s new Student Health and Wellness Center, currently underway at the gateway of campus.

The announcement highlights the shared dedication of both institutions to enhancing student well-being and academic success through improved access to comprehensive health services.

“Partnerships are not built overnight—they are outcomes of mutual interest, hard work, intentional conversations, and an honest belief that what we are doing collectively is for the greater good,” said FSU Chancellor Darrell T. Allison. “This investment reflects a deep commitment to the health and future of our students and the communities we serve.”

The state-of-the-art Health and Wellness Center will cover 24,631 square feet and will serve as a central hub for comprehensive student care. Its striking modern design features angled glass, metal panels, and a serene reflecting pool, creating a welcoming atmosphere for all who enter the campus.

“Few things are more foundational to student success than access to health care and wellness support,” said Cape Fear Valley Health CEO Mike Nagowski. “Cape Fear Valley is proud to have committed these $900,000 over the next two years. This is not a donation—it is an investment. You are training the next set of leadership for the next generation.”

The center will offer a wide range of health services, including:

A 7,500-square-foot fitness floor with advanced equipment
Yoga and dance studios, locker rooms, saunas, and wellness offices
A full-service retail pharmacy
Physician offices, treatment and triage rooms, psychiatric care, and laboratory services
Dedicated spaces for Bronco Wellness programming, health education, prevention, and outreach

“The new Health and Wellness Center will serve as a beacon of health and healing,” said Dr. Juanette Council, FSU’s Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. “This timely facility will bring together multiple critical services under one roof—creating a centralized student center for health education, prevention, treatment, and overall wellness.”

The project’s modern infrastructure includes tall glass walls, a sleek rainscreen exterior, acoustical Tectum roof panels, and a durable masonry core, ensuring both style and sustainability for years to come.

Construction is currently underway, with the Health and Wellness Center poised to redefine the student experience at Fayetteville State University.
