NCDMV launches hiring initiative to reduce wait times; Opens 40 new positions

By Staff Report, posted Aug 20, 2025 on BizFayetteville.com

The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) is excited to announce 40 new driver license examiner positions, made possible by a mini-budget signed into law by Governor Josh Stein this month. These roles aim to shorten lines and wait times at driver license offices across North Carolina.

NCDMV is now actively hiring for these positions, with applications open on the DMV Careers webpage. To speed up recruitment, NCDMV will host job fairs statewide in the coming weeks, where candidates can learn about the roles and apply on-site.

In Fayetteville, the NCDMV has partnered with NCWorks to host a career fair on Monday, Aug. 25, at their headquarters building located at 490 N. McPherson Church Road in Fayetteville.

“We thank the legislature, governor, and auditor for their support in creating these vital positions,” said NCDMV Commissioner Paul Tine. “Our team is focused on quickly hiring and training examiners to improve service and reduce wait times for North Carolinians.”

These new examiners will enhance NCDMV’s ability to provide fast, reliable services for driver licenses, IDs and more. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply and join a team committed to improving the customer experience.
