Cape Fear Regional Theatre (CFRT) has opened applications for their tech theatre internship for 2025-2026. CFRT’s Internship Program offers internships that are designed to give high school & college students from Fayetteville and its surrounding areas a serious and intensive experience in the field of technical theatre.
“The internship program at CFRT is a great opportunity to step beyond the classroom and become fully immersed in a professional theatrical setting. Participants get the unique chance to work alongside artists from all around the country, gaining first-hand insight into how different professionals approach their craft,” shared CFRT Education Director Marc de la Concha. “That kind of exposure broadens their perspective and helps them develop problem-solving, teamwork, communication and collaboration skills that are valuable in any career path, not just theatre.”
Primary internship activities include practical experience with and classes on sound, lighting, set, properties, running crew and stage management. Additional opportunities are also available in such departments as education and outreach, marketing and office management.
In CFRT’s Internship Program, participants will discover new talents, engage in hands-on training with professional artists not only from Fayetteville and the surrounding region, but also New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago; and receive professional training ahead of their peers.
Internships are an extremely valuable experience that can be included on any college application or professional resume. Internships inform both professional and academic communities that participants are dedicated and willing to devote extra time to learning and perfecting their craft.
"This internship has opened up so many opportunities and taught me great skills for my future in and outside of theatre,” shared Third Year Intern Delaney Loper. “It is really an amazing program for people who love theatre as much as I do!"
Applicants are expected to be self-motivated, committed and willing to learn a vast set of theatrical skills. Qualified applicants should be current high school or college students or recent graduates who possess a strong desire to continue their focus in professional theatre.
Interns will be required to attend enrichment sessions and work nights that focus on various departments of the theatre throughout the season. These sessions are mandatory to the program.
CFRT’s 2025-2026 season will include five mainstage productions plus their annual holiday production, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Interns are required to complete production assignments on 3 of the 6 productions but are encouraged to work on as many productions as possible to fully maximize the learning experience.
Applications are due Saturday Aug. 30 and can be completed online here. Internship guidelines and the internship permission form can be found online here and here, respectively. For additional information regarding CFRT’s internship program, please contact edassociate@cfrt.org.
