The North Carolina Department of Transportation announced that drivers should expect delays when travelling on Raeford Road near the Walmart over the next few weeks.
An intersection on the road is being expanded. In particular, NCDOT is extending the dual left-turn lanes from westbound Raeford Road onto Gillis Hill Road by 400 Feet.
This expansion means that the lane next to the median on Raeford Road will be closed off in each direction on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will not be lane closures or work from Nov. 25-28.
NCDOT anticipates that the project will be completed in December.
Improving the turn, NCDOT says, will allow the queuing of approximately 50 more vehicles in the left turn lanes than currently possible without obstructing the through lanes going westbound. The department and travelers of the road alike have seen increases in traffic in the area after the Fayetteville Outer Loop was extended to Raeford Road in 2020.
