Lumbee Chairman John L. Lowery to serve as State Representative for North Carolina House District 47

Lumbee Tribal Chairman John L. Lowery was recently selected to fill the vacant North Carolina House District 47 seat, following the resignation of his brother, former Representative Jarrod Lowery.

This appointment will allow Chairman Lowery to continue to serve as the elected leader of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, while also representing the people of District 47 as a legislator.

This appointment will allow the Lumbee Tribe of NC to secure a voice in the legislative arena and will make sure that Tribal issues are a priority for the General Assembly. 

“I am deeply honored to serve the people of Robeson County in this new capacity,” said Chairman Lowery in a press release. “As both Tribal Chairman and State Representative, I look forward to continuing to advocate for our communities — to strengthen our economy, support our educators, allocate resources to address crime, to help those with mental behavioral challenges, and ensure that the values and voices of Robeson County are represented in Raleigh.”

“Chairman Lowery’s appointment highlights his longstanding record of collaboration across local, tribal, state and federal levels. His new role reflects a continued commitment to unity, leadership and service on behalf of all citizens of Robeson County,” shared the Tribe in a press release.
