Due to an overwhelming community response, Cumberland County Community Development has temporarily paused new referrals for the Homeless Prevention and Stabilization Voucher Pilot Program. During the pause, department staff are working diligently to process existing applications.

Residents who have already gone through Coordinated Entry and were referred to the program do not need to call Community Development. County staff are actively contacting referred individuals in the order referrals were received to schedule appointments, verify documentation and determine eligibility.

“Our team is working efficiently to process applications and ensure resources reach eligible residents as quickly as possible,” said Chief of Staff and Interim Community Development Director Tye Vaught in a press release. “This temporary pause allows us to focus on the hundreds of referrals already in the system, maintain program integrity, and provide fair, timely service to those in need.”

What Residents Should Know

About the Program

The Homeless Prevention and Stabilization Voucher Pilot Program provides short-term, needs-based assistance to help eligible residents prevent homelessness or stabilize housing.

This pilot program is part of a broader effort by Cumberland County to reduce homelessness and improve access to essential services. The Board of Commissioners approved $250,000 for the program in August 2025 following recommendations from Cumberland County Community Development and local housing advocates.
