Paratrooper’s Chocolate Bar is a local small business founded by Jazlyn Ortiz. After celebrating the official grand opening in 2024, the business has become a beloved local fixture, delighting customers with a variety of desserts.

Born and raised in Sampson County, Ortiz first moved to Fayetteville in 2018 and joined the military in 2021. Baking was initially just a hobby and while serving she didn’t have time to run the business, but once she left the military she was able to turn her love of baking into a full-time job.

Ortiz operates her business from her home in Fayetteville and sells her goodies at local markets and vendor events as well. Customers can place orders online, find Ortiz at a local market or stop by her home where she has a self-serve baker’s stand that welcomes visitors around the clock. Ortiz also fulfills custom orders.

Plans are underway to expand operations further with a mobile bakery. Ortiz has invested in outfitting a food trailer, envisioning a future where she can bake and serve her desserts directly to neighborhoods and event attendees. This move signals an exciting new chapter, with hopes of launching the dessert food truck by spring.

Paratroopers Chocolate Bar is renowned for its selection of sweets influenced by both family heritage and trending flavors. Fan favorites include tres leches cakes and Dubai chocolate bars.

The business’s name pays homage to the paratroopers of Fort Bragg, inspired by the support and encouragement Ortiz received from both a former partner and the wider military community. This strong network of fellow Veterans and local residents has been instrumental in fostering the business’s growth.

“My respect goes out to the military community. We are just all about supporting each other. If they see you're a Veteran, they're all for it. Even civilians here around the military town, they're very, very supportive of military businesses. And it just makes me feel very welcome,” shared Ortiz.

While Ortiz operates the business largely on her own, support from family members – including her sister and daughter – adds an extra dose of heart and teamwork.

Paratrooper’s Chocolate Bar continues to thrive, driven by personal dedication, community support and a genuine love for sweet creations.
