Cumberland County has named Ken Griffin as the County’s new engineering director. Griffin brings decades of executive leadership and technical expertise in public infrastructure, utilities and capital program management to the role.
Griffin is a licensed professional engineer and an International City/County Management Association (ICMA) Credentialed Manager with extensive experience leading large-scale public works, utilities and engineering organizations at both the county and municipal levels. His background includes oversight of transportation systems, water and wastewater utilities, stormwater infrastructure and major capital improvement programs.
In this role, Griffin will oversee long-term infrastructure resilience, with a focus on safety, efficiency, regulatory compliance and fiscal stewardship.
“Strong engineering leadership is essential to supporting growth and maintaining critical infrastructure,” said County Manager Clarence Grier in a press release. “Ken brings a combination of technical expertise, executive management experience and a proven track record delivering complex infrastructure projects in fast-growing communities.”
Griffin most recently served as director of public utilities and capital projects for Currituck County, where he led planning, funding, design and construction for major water, wastewater, stormwater and transportation-related projects. He holds advanced degrees in environmental engineering, leadership and management and biological sciences, and has completed executive education programs at Harvard University and Cornell University. His professional recognitions include multiple national awards for utility excellence, infrastructure planning, financial stability and sustainability.
