FSU's Cyber Academy offers January courses

By Staff Report, posted Dec 28, 2021 on BizFayetteville.com

Fayetteville State University’s Cyber Academy will begin again in January.

The offered courses, which are scheduled at an accelerated pace and in the evening to accommodate more people, equip students for cyber-oriented careers that can potentially earn $65,000-85,000 salaries. The students who take the courses at Fayetteville State have a 90 percent certification pass rate.

On January 25, people who want to be certified for cyber security jobs can begin Cyber Foundations, a program that equips students for CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+ and CompTIA Security+ certifications. No prerequisites or previous experience is needed; only skills with Windows-based computers, an interest in the field and problem-solving capabilities are necessary.

The course can be completed in 33 classroom sessions.

On January 10, the next round of the Cyber Security course will begin.

The prerequisites needed for the course include A+, Network+, Security+ or equivalent certifications.

People who have those prerequisites already are equipped for the course. However, since students of Cyber Foundations are equipped for those certifications, one should note that there are other opportunities to take Cyber Foundations on April 26 and July 26, and another opportunity for the Cyber Security course on June 1.

The certifications offered from the course are Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Linux+, Certified Ethical Hacker and Wireshark.

The course can be completed in 40 classroom sessions.
